The Ocean Now Uncrowned
Zoey Doyle
A crashing wave, a curling crest
The salty spray grows strong,
The wind sweeps in, a thought it brings
The sea will not last long
A twisted net, a stone cold bird
Another spark gone out
No longer do the seagulls cry
No longer do they shout
Once a splash from life below
Created an exuberant sound.
All's now muted, convoluted,
The ocean now uncrowned
Those stunning waves of blue
Once beautiful and bold
Gone forever, black with pain
Every life gone cold
A crashing wave, a curling crest
The salty spray grows strong,
The wind sweeps in, a thought it brings
The sea will not last long
My heart shifts with the wind,
I know our legacy pays
Getting battered by the daggers
Having always cut two ways
We wrote poems of her beauty
Dancing among her waves
Ignoring her pain-wracked screams
We dug our own shamed graves
The ocean was our source of life
Was this our means to an end?
The repercussion, chain of destruction,
It's all finally setting in.
A crashing wave, a curling crest
The salty spray grows strong,
The wind sweeps in, a thought it brings
No, the sea will not last long
